Samsung ML-2955ND Laser Printer Drivers and Software

The Samsung ML-2955ND is clearly aimed at a micro, small or home office or as a personal printer in an office of any size. It’s small enough to fit comfortably on a desk, but offers adequate paper capacity and speed to serve as either an office personal or shared printer. It doesn’t hurt at all that the price is low enough to make it very affordable too.

Shared features include wired network support, as well as a USB connection and essentially identical paper handling. Thanks to network support, the printers can be easily shared. Paper handover is suitable for either a micro office or personal use. It has a 250-sheet tray, a 1-sheet manual feeder, and a built-in duplexer for printing on two sides of the page. None of the printers offer additional paper handling options.

The printer is certainly slower than I would expect for the 29 ppm rating, which is about the speed you should see when printing text documents without graphics or photos.

Output quality overall is just a touch below average, with text a small step below average, absolutely equivalent graphics, and photos at the lower end of the very narrow range that most mono lasers fall into. The good news is that even with text quality slightly below average for a mono laser, the text is easily good enough for most business purposes. You shouldn’t complain about this unless you need unusually small fonts.

As with most mono lasers, the graphics output was easily sufficient for all internal business needs. Depending on how demanding you are, you may consider it good enough for PowerPoint handouts and the like. The photo output was more than good enough to print recognizable images from photos on web pages. Again, depending on how demanding you are, you may or may not consider them good enough for output like client newsletters.

This potentially higher overall cost is partially offset by the Samsung printer’s Eco Mode, which switches the printer to duplex printing and toner saver mode with the default settings at the touch of a button on the control panel. However, Samsung doesn’t say how much the toner saver mode actually saves.

As it may seem obvious, the Samsung ML-2955ND works well as a shared printer in a micro office or as a personal printer in an office of any size.
