Samsung CLP-775ND Color Laser Printer Driver and Software

The Samsung CLP-775ND is not the cheapest printer in the test, but it is one of the most powerful and one of the cheapest. It’s a sizeable device, but it’s not unattractive when printers are working and it feels pretty sturdy.

The printing speeds are very high. The Samsung is advertised at 30 ppm and rarely fell below 27 ppm in our tests. It’s also quiet in operation and has a short warm-up time when printing individual pages. This can be useful if you want to get immediate results from students’ work.

The print quality is equally good with high quality mono text and color graphics. When it comes to printing photos, the Samsung doesn’t quite reach the heights of the HP or Oki printers, but it does a good job with no banding or blurring. Our biggest complaint would be that the colors aren’t as accurate as we’d like.

The Samsung CLP 775ND’s toner cartridges aren’t cheap – a set of four will set you back £300 – but each contains enough ink for 7,000 pages, so the running cost for color is around S.Sp, or 0.92p per mono page . The CPL 775ND also features a duplex unit that helps keep paper costs down.

What’s impressive is that the Samsung can hold up to 500 sheets of paper in its compartment. Another feature that makes it a great choice for a centrally located printer is that you don’t have to constantly refill it. It’s a slight shame that there’s no wireless connection, but Gigabit Ethernet ensures it works well over the network and we had no problems connecting the printer using Samsung’s drivers and utilities.

The Samsung is an excellent color laser printer. Although it is too large to be the ideal classroom companion, it is fast, quiet and inexpensive to operate. Add to that the excellent build quality, and you have a printer that’s worth paying a little more for.
