Samsung Xpress SL-M2071FW Laser Multifunction Printer Driver and Software

The Samsung Xpress SL-M2071FW is more functional and no-nonsense – as you would expect from a mono laser all-in-one device. Aside from the unusual two-tone color scheme, the design is angular and sturdy. A 1,200ppi flatbed scanner is mounted on top and controls are on a balcony at the front.

These include a two-line mono LCD panel, large control buttons and four dedicated buttons for ID card printing, WPS setup and Samsung Eco print mode, which can quickly set toner saving and multi-page printing per sheet to save resources .

Apart from NFC, it is not full of features. There is no multi-purpose slot, no duplex printing, and no ADF for the scanner, although the scanner lid can accommodate both magazines and cut sheets.

The printing costs are not the best. The press uses a one-piece drum and toner cartridge that is only available in one capacity (1,000 sheets). This is inserted below the hinge scanner section. We prefer either an XL option for the cartridge or a two-piece cartridge with replaceable toner and a longer-lasting drum. In any case, the printing press contributes to an above-average cost per page of 3.5p.

Consumption prices fluctuate significantly from month to month, allowing page costs to be kept in line as the model term increases. Once you start printing, such concerns fade into the background. In both normal and toner save modes, it printed at a speed of 19ppm in our tests, which is impressive for an all-in-one under £150. Also, the device wakes up and starts printing within 12 seconds. The copy speed is good. A single sheet from the flatbed takes nine seconds.

Black text printing is crisp and dense black, and fill areas are reproduced similarly well. Photos are surprisingly well processed, although there are some subtle streaks. The scan head has a peak optical resolution of 1,200 ppi, and a 6×4-inch photo scanned at 600 ppi took an impressively low 20 seconds. Although the scan is fast, it loses little definition, colors are natural and details are sharp. It’s a surprisingly good scanner for a budget all-in-one device.

The Samsung Xpress SL-M2071FW offers good value for money despite its above-average printing costs. The modest footprint and easy-to-use controls are complemented by excellent print quality and respectable speed change. Its NFC capability makes it particularly suitable for working with mobile devices.
