Samsung CLP-360 Color Laser Printer Drivers and Software

The award for the world’s smallest color laser printer may have to go to Samsung’s Samsung CLP-360. At just 382 x 309 x 210mm, this is an amazingly compact laser printer that looks great on a desktop at home or in the office. But is it good?

Despite its size, the Samsung CLP-360 manages to hold a 150-page cartridge, a 300 MHz processor with 32 MB of memory and a USB connection – unfortunately no WiFi or other network connections.

The printer’s design is quite sparse, with just a few control buttons, power on one side, and a liftable plastic door in the output area at the top of the printer. On the plus side, it looks pretty good with the blue and white colors used throughout.

That being said, the text page test had an average print speed of about 15 pages per minute, with the first page spit out within the first 15 seconds. Color pages were much slower, with three smoother pages per minute, with the first coming out within 30 seconds of sending the print.

Before we get into the quality of the prints, it’s worth mentioning that this particular Samsung CLP-360 gave us an inordinate amount of grief when printing. For starters, up close it refused to print evenly and stated that the printer was offline when it clearly wasn’t.

When it finally took the data, we had frequent paper jam warnings and, for some unknown reason, blank pages being fed through the mechanism. We’re not entirely sure what was going on, to be honest, but based on our experiences here, this isn’t a particularly reliable brand of printer.

The print quality was generally fine when it appeared. The text was quite sharp and very readable, and the color prints were also clear, had bright colors and good resolution. In fact, the Samsung CLP-360 probably had the best output of any printer.

It’s just a shame that getting the output from the printer was such a nightmare in the first place. The cost of the replacement toner varies, but one of the cheapest we’ve found for a multipack of genuine Samsung toners. The color cartridges give a page yield of 1,000 pages, while the black offers 1,500 pages. This equates to around 2.2p per page, but here lies another issue we have with this particular printer.

When we weren’t having problems with paper jams or something else, the printer was gobbling up toner like there was no end to it. In the tests we conducted, we managed to dry out a 750-page black and color pack of toner within half an hour. We suspect that in this case, thousand-page toners won’t last much longer, especially if you’re doing high-volume printing.

The Samsung CLP-360 is a small color laser that looks good enough to show off, and in fairness it produces a good quality print, but it’s far too flaky and expensive to justify the initial cost.
