Samsung ML-2165 Laser Printer Drivers and Software

If you need a personal monolaser to sit on your desk and don’t want to give up a lot of desktop space for it, the Samsung ML-2165 is a tempting choice. It offers Wi-Fi, a suitable paper capacity for a personal printer, high-quality text and graphics, and acceptable, if somewhat slow, speed.

Samsung also offers free apps that allow you to print from an Android, iOS or Windows 7 device via a Wi-Fi access point. (It also plans to add direct Wi-Fi printing with a firmware upgrade later this year.) Unfortunately, the printer also has a relatively high running cost, limiting its appeal if you print a lot of pages.

One of the costs of keeping the printer size down is that the Samsung ML-2165 is a bit weak when it comes to handling paper. It offers a single 150-sheet tray, no manual feed, and no automatic duplexing (for printing on both sides of a page). The low paper capacity means that if you print more than 30 pages a day, you’ll need to add paper frequently enough for this to become a minor hassle.

This can be a problem if you want to use Wi-Fi to share the printer with even one other person. However , for most people who use the Samsung ML-2165 as a purely personal printer, the 150 sheets should be sufficient.

The Samsung ML-2165 performed better in terms of output quality than speed. The text quality of mono lasers is in the middle range. It’s light enough for any typical business use, including documents with small fonts – at least if you choose the right font. Depending on how much of a perfectionist you are, you may even consider it good enough for desktop publishing applications.

Graphics quality in my testing was absolutely equivalent to a monolaser, making it sufficient for all internal business needs, including PowerPoint handouts. Photo quality was slightly below average, with the printer losing more grayscale than most mono lasers.

However, the quality was acceptable for most situations where you would use a mono laser for photos, such as: B. printing web pages that contain photos. On the other hand, I would hesitate to use the printer for a customer newsletter with photos, as the subtle shading that makes photos appear photorealistic is noticeably lost.
