The Samsung ML-3051ND should easily meet the printing needs of a small office with multiple busy users. It handles paper well and produces good quality text and images at high speed.

A paper cassette at the bottom of the ML-3051ND holds up to 250 sheets. A multi-purpose tray folds down from the front to hold an additional 50 sheets or a short stack of 5 envelopes (which you cannot load from the main paper tray). You can add a single optional 250-sheet paper tray for $149, increasing paper capacity to a maximum of 550 sheets.

The top output tray holds 150 sheets. However, you can also open a rear exit to allow individual sheets of thicker media to exit without wrinkling or bending. The built-in duplexer avoids problems by printing double-sided documents without user intervention.

The Samsung ML-3051ND control panel has eight buttons for configuring the printer and an LCD with two lines of text. Both came in handy when we needed to assign an IP address when connecting the printer to the PC World Test Center network. Once the printer was installed on the network, it was easy for us to use the comprehensive features of the embedded web server to manage the printer. The ML-3051ND comes with Windows drivers for GDI, PCL and PostScript.

Toner cartridges for the ML-3051ND are available in two capacities and are designed for 4000 and 8000 pages. The 4000 page cartridge comes with the printer. The 8000-page cartridge, which allows you to get a low cost of 1.6 cents per page, costs $130.

There are no other user-serviceable parts, and Samsung only sells parts to dealers and service providers. You must use such third-party service providers to replace the transfer roller, fuser unit, and pick-up roller (at relatively long intervals of 70,000, 80,000, and 150,000 pages, respectively). Over time, this would likely drive up the cost per page.
