This multifunction printer has an elegantly compact design. It is smaller than any other multifunction printer. His weight is similar to his height. Very light and ready to take on heavy tasks. Thanks to the multitasking features, you can carry out your work efficiently and quickly. This Samsung SCX-3205 machine uses less power and performs amazingly well. Silent technology ensures less noisy and very quiet printing.

A 150-sheet paper tray in the base is accessed via a fold-down front flap. The paper is dispensed at the top of a pull-out collection tray. When the printer is not in use, it is closed to a depth of approximately 30 cm. It has USB 2 and Ethernet ports on the back. However, the easiest printing method is 802.11n Wi-Fi. We had it set up in our Labs network in just a few minutes.

A two-digit display tracks up to 99 copies and there’s a useful button that lets you quickly copy both sides of a photo ID to print on a single page. An eco button switches to toner save mode, and a split power and Wi-Fi light strip in the right corner adds a touch of style.

There’s a good reason for the low price, though: the press is essentially that of the lower-end price of £63 excluding VAT. We didn’t quite hit the quoted print speed of 16 pages per minute, but was good on a wide range of text and image document types it consistently runs over 13 pages per minute. A best quality mono photomontage took 14 seconds, including 9 seconds of processing time, and the time to first print varied between that and about 12 seconds.

Text is the strongest color, with solid blacks and fine edges. It’s not as hot with images, with some noticeable grain in more detailed areas, but there’s at least a visible improvement if you choose 1,200 dpi over the standard 600 dpi.

Unfortunately, the Samsung SCX-3205 scanner also reflects the price, with the pixel structure clearly visible. A thatched cross effect mars the images. Attempts to copy photos produced spotty results. Therefore, it’s best to view Samsung’s scanning and copying component as a tool primarily for documents. It also won’t bother the Pixmas and Photosmarts of the world in terms of speed.

Still, it’s an all-round printer and copier for just £107, and although it comes with a pesky 700-page starter cartridge, a full 1,500-page cartridge costs 2.9p per A4 page. Whether this amounts to a bargain depends on your point of view: adding a scanner to the top of a £63 printer and charging it twice certainly looks steep. However, if you just need a runaround laser for the office, adding a copier adds a lot of budget appeal.
