Samsung SCX-4623FL Laser Multifunction Printer Driver and Software

Unlike other all-in-one or multifunction devices that have come my way, the Samsung Samsung SCX-4623FL is not an inkjet model. Instead, this multifunctional offering from Samsung is based on laser technology. Finished in a combination of matte and reflective piano black, the SCX-4623F offers print, scan, copy, and fax capabilities, although the review unit did not include a telephone connection cable. However, you do get an ADF (Automatic Document Feed) feature.

By the way, no printed setup documentation was included in the delivery (you will receive a PDF user manual on the included CD). This meant that I had no indication of whether the device should be connected to the computer before or after installing the necessary software. As it turned out, you need to connect the Samsung SCX-4623FL before starting the software installation.

With dimensions of 416 x 319 x 416 mm (W x H x D), this multifunctional device has a calming and robust presence. When considering where to position the device, be aware that the power plug and cord tend to protrude from the back of the device, increasing the space required. There is no such problem with the USB cable, as this is attached to the main body of the device rather than to the protruding power adapter.

All tasks involve paper input and output from the front of this multifunction device. The main paper tray is located at the bottom of the device and had a tendency to stick a bit when I had to remove and replace it after refilling it with paper. Without a doubt, this was the most cumbersome paper tray I encountered and caused almost more problems than the rest of the machine combined. This paper tray has a capacity of 250 sheets, which should be fine for light users but may cause problems for those who tend to be heavy print users.

Just above this paper tray is a slot for single sheet use if you need specialty paper or envelopes. Paper output is via a wider, mouth-like slot at the top of the device. This has a small pull-out flap to aid paper dispensing.

On the printer unit is the A4 flatbed scanner with a resolution of 4800 x 4800. The control panel of the multifunction device forms a protruding lip on the front of the scanner and has a two-line 16-character display. To the left of this display are two buttons that probably want to remain incognito since they are unlabeled.

The back button is used to scan ID cards while the front button is used to print a screenshot. On the right side of the control panel are buttons for selecting faxes (using the built-in 33.6 Kbps modem), as well as copying and scanning. a navigation compass; Telephone number pad; and power, print and cancel buttons.
