Samsung Xpress SL-M2070 Laser Multifunction Printer Driver and Software

The Samsung Xpress SL-M2070 model combines a two-color arrangement of a black A4 flatbed scanner mounted on a gray computer printer. The layout may not be aesthetically pleasing or what I would consider as a stylist, but the overall look is a solid device that is relatively compact with dimensions of 406 x 359.6 x 253mm (W x D x H). This multifunction device offers a range of functions including copying, scanning and printing with a choice of USB or wireless connections as a standalone or networked unit.

Unlike most MFPs I look at, this model’s printer element is a monochrome laser variety rather than a color inkjet device. There are power and USB ports on the back of the printer. The rather smooth front of the laser printer features a drop-down flap that becomes the paper input tray with a capacity of up to 150 sheets of A4 paper. There is also a pull-out door that supports printed documents as they are ejected from the top of the printer. Although this door appears small and does not extend all the way to the boom, there were no occasions where I had to pick up printed documents from the floor.

The A4 flatbed scanner unit with the Samsung Xpress SL-M2070 control panel stands like an elevated platform. This control extends like a canopy over the paper output opening and features a two-line mono LCD screen that provides feedback and access to the various menu options and settings. Due to the small size of this screen, navigating the menu when looking for a specific option is not that easy, even with the help of a navigation wheel.

Buttons are available for tasks such as scan, copy, WPS and Eco mode, as well as power save, stop/delete, start and power options. There’s also a small light that shows when there’s Wi-Fi activity. Slightly to the left and directly above the control panel is a label indicating that this multifunction model is NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled. Unfortunately, I had no success with this feature, although I was able to print from a smartphone and tablet using the free downloadable Samsung Mobile Print app .

Setting up the Samsung This software includes drivers for printers and scanners, Samsung Easy Print Manager , Samsung Easy Document Creator , OCR software and Easy Wireless Setup. Before actually installing this software, it checks for updated versions. All updates found will then be included in the installation. You have the choice of a wireless or USB connection with the option to use the device’s WPS function if supported by your router.

The A4 flatbed scanner can deliver a resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi in black and white when making photocopies. A monochrome A4 photocopy was delivered in 10 seconds. The scanner can reduce and enlarge images between 40 and 400%. You can scan directly to a computer where Windows users can choose between TWAIN and WIA. When scanning to a computer, the resolution can be increased to 4800 x 4800 dpi for color images. Samsung has integrated Easy Document Creator software to work with the scanner.

When printing documents, the Samsung Xpress SL-M2070 offers four print types. You can choose between normal, eco, 2-in-1 and booklet style. As you might assume, normal print mode applies to most print jobs. Printing a 554-word document in this mode resulted in a print speed of 21 pages per minute.
