Samsung ML-2251N Laser Printer Drivers and Software
If you’re trying to outfit a small office on a budget, the Samsung ML-2251N offers a tempting combination of low price, good print quality, and standard Ethernet. However, prepare for a difficult start as the documentation is inadequate.
Unfortunately, the installation routine could not detect (and barely document) the ML-2251’s standard Ethernet connection. After troubleshooting to no avail, I finally resorted to the only alternative, which was to continue the installation without specifying a connection. Luckily, this approach worked. Acknowledging that the documentation applies to a broad product line, Samsung largely omits coverage of this model’s standard Ethernet interface. That’s a big corner that the company shouldn’t have cut.
Other aspects of the documentation and drivers were similarly disappointing. The brevity of the setup poster’s multilingual instructions bordered on obscure, and some illustrations were unclear. However, the CD-based manual was thorough and detailed.
While the Samsung ML-2251N’s compact size (just 14.1 inches wide, 17.8 inches deep, and 10.9 inches high) fits well in tight office spaces, it leaves little room for expansion to keep up with growing business . A 250-sheet letter/legal tray is standard, and an identical second tray is optional. The toner cartridge capacity of 5,000 pages and the printer’s monthly duty cycle of 30,000 pages limit the ML-2251N to moderate use. A duplexer is neither standard nor optional.
The design also had some problems. The control panel’s single button labeled “Cancel” can perform six functions beyond the obvious – including printing a configuration sheet and selecting manual feed – but without consulting the user manual, you’ll never find out (or yourself remember) Each requires complicated press/hold combinations. Another beef: the printer’s front cover and the multi-purpose tray cover open in the same place, and it’s impossible to tell which is which from the outside.

The compact Samsung ML-2251N prints nearly flawless text, but network installation is tricky, and the machine’s leisurely print speed means you get prints on Samsung’s schedule – not yours.
